Certain hairstyling practices involving excessive heat, chemical processing or tension may worsen scalp inflammation and hair damage, although they are not considered the sole cause of the condition.

Diagnosis generally involves a scalp examination and may require a biopsy. Although hair loss from destroyed follicles is permanent, early treatment may help reduce inflammation and slow or prevent further progression.

Management may include prescription medication, anti-inflammatory therapy and gentle haircare practices. Avoiding excessive heat, harsh chemicals and high-tension hairstyles can also help protect the remaining hair and scalp.

8. Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia
